Gonsalves Method Toolkit

A toolkit of authentic connection exercises for actors and non-actors

For the first time, the Gonsalves Method exercises are being made available as a self-contained box, the Gonsalves Method Toolkit.

The Gonsalves Method, a rapid new approach, has been developed by Aileen Gonsalves during her 30+ years experience in theatre, including performing & directing with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) and teaching both acting & directing courses at leading drama schools (e.g. RADA, Arts Ed.) and published by Bloomsbury. The Gonsalves Method is rooted in the Meisner Technique (with its focus on authentic responsiveness) and enhances this with an efficient way to create the given circumstances. This empowers actors to consistently deliver truthful, responsive and impactful performance.

The Gonsalves Method Toolkit is for:

  • Teachers & directors: a toolkit for training authentic connection between actors and developing a shared working language.

  • Actors: a card-driven set of playful drama games & exercises to hone their craft and explore different relationship dynamics.

  • Public speakers: an efficient way to sharpen the practical skills of holding an audience.

The toolkit includes condition cards (As If, Prep, Objective) which are used to create the given circumstances to inspire and challenge the actors, and tactics cards to expand actor’s range of dramatic choices. The box also includes a booklet of clearly explained games & exercises for using the cards in a wide variety of different scenarios. The exercises range from warm-up games to Meisner’s repetition to improvised scenes to breathing life into scripted text.

You know the conditions, now play with the cards.

The Gonsalves Method exercises are being made available in a self-contained box of card-driven exercises to play and train. The Gonsalves Cards give you the tools to play with the conditions without whispering in ears.
